The Templars
Also known as paladins, these vampires are an elite bodyguard force appointed by a bishop or a higher-ranking leader (such as an archbishop or even a priscus). Though they lack formal organization, being named a Templar is a great honor for a Cainite. Becoming a symbol of strength is public recognition of one's combat skill.
Templars serve in various roles, always military. Nearly every
archbishop keeps several in their retinue to handle delicate matters
best approached with a measured use of violence, while Inquisitors
often rely on them as additional muscle on their travels.
Templars are forbidden from joining the Black Hand, as that could
create an undesirable conflict of interests. Some Cainites call them
bloodhounds or errand boys, and they usually serve the sect's
leadership, though some may belong to a pack during inactive periods,
or after being honorably released from duty while their superiors have
no immediate need of fighters.
