The Keeper of Elysium

The office is fairly self-explanatory: this Kindred is responsible for everything that happens in Elysium, and usually in its immediate surroundings. A Toreador planning a recital, a Tremere giving a lecture on medieval alchemy, or two Brujah arranging a debate on current Kindred-police relations must clear it with the Keeper first. The Keeper may cancel an event at any time, even moments before it starts, if it is deemed a threat to security or the Masquerade (and whether it truly is does not matter: the Keeper has that authority and may use it as they see fit). Such power may be less dramatic than a Scourge's right of destruction, but it can be used to great effect; casually canceling a recital that an artist-vampire spent months hyping can seriously damage their reputation.

Keepers can come from any clan; most are at least ancillae, which gives them enough influence to hire or build the security Elysium requires. Contrary to common belief, most Keepers are not Toreador, who can become too distracted by Elysium's social atmosphere.
The role carries many responsibilities and few advantages. A Keeper is accountable for everything that happens inside Elysium (and often nearby). Though the office is prestigious and can grant a Kindred a fair share of recognition and status, it places them under scrutiny almost equal to that endured by the Prince. Since the role requires regular dealings with mortals, monstrous Kindred (by appearance or behavior) are rarely considered unless they can convincingly disguise themselves.
Keepers are often questioned in assemblies about their stance on the Masquerade, mortals, security, and Elysium as a whole. Harpies can be very kind to a failed Keeper, if the Keeper remains around to endure their contempt.
Every night the Keeper must ensure Elysium adheres to established Tradition rules and the Masquerade. They may oversee the no-weapons policy, a task often delegated to the Sheriff. At times, they must act as host to ensure everything runs smoothly. If the Prince requests refreshments, the Keeper is responsible for making it happen.
"As the Keeper, so the Elysium" is a familiar saying in high circles, and largely true. Of all city offices, this one changes hands most frequently. It is a kind of political football, kicked endlessly between Prince and Primogen.
